Skimming
– A basic fly cut skim is suitable for most aluminium and steel heads and is usually all that is required to reface your head. Some diesel heads have a hardened steel insert pressed into the heads around the swirl chamber. These cylinder heads cannot be fly cut unless the inserts have been removed. A basic skim assumes the top and bottom faces are parallel and the head is not a ‘wedge’ shape. Although we can do these, please contact us for a price. Camshafts need to be removed, although valves are usually ok to be left in, as are spark plugs as long as the do not protrude through to the face. Maximum face size: 600mm x 200mm. Badly soiled heads will incur a £5 cleaning charge. We will only remove the bare minimum of material required, which is usually in the region of 3 – 10 thou (approx 0.075 – 0.25 mm) but it is recommended you check your vehicle manufacturers specifications for minimum head thickness, and whether different thickness headgaskets are available before sending your head to us. Material removed and head thickness will be put on your invoice. Head will be finished with a very slight ridging effect (much like an old vinyl record) unless requested by yourselves. We find that this prevents the new gasket from squashing and distorting when refitted as the ridges grip the gasket.
Welding
– We can also weld badly corroded aluminium heads. Price below is for upto 3 patches around 2″ long. Due to the pre-heating and heat produced from welding, any rubber seals, valve stem oil seals or sensors will need removing before delivery to us, or replacing before refitting head to engine.
Vapour blasting
– Vapour blasting (also known as aqua blasting or bead blasting) cleans by using fine glass beads mixed with water fired at high pressure. This will leave a matte finish and visually transform your head back to an ‘as new’ look. Because of the fine particles used, removal of valves and sensors is highly recommended. Although we do our best to remove all particles, some may remain, so a thorough inspection (and maybe a couple of cycles through a dishwasher!) is advised.
Delivery
– Heads received by 10am monday to friday will usually be turned around and sent out the same day. During busy times there may be a delay so if the job is urgent, contact use first! Although most heads are received the next working day, our courrier specifies it as a 1-2 business day service. UK mainland only. Deliveries will require a signature and are made between 8am and 6pm. If you require delivery to an address different from your paypal address, please indicate this. Please ensure you package your item securely as your packaging will be reused to send your head back to you! If you would prefer to use your own courrier, use the drop off and collect payment option and we will let you know when your item is ready for collection.
